‼️ FAFSA IS OPEN!‼️🎓 Class of 2027

It’s time to get your financial aid plan together! The 2027–2028 FAFSA is officially open ! 🎓💰Yes, this is earlier than the scheduled October 1st opening.

If you or your student plans to attend college, career school, or a trade program during the 2027–2028 academic year, now is the time to get started.

🎯 Why should you complete FAFSA early (besides the fact that it is a graduation requirement)? FAFSA can help determine eligibility for:

  • Federal grants, including the Pell Grant

  • Federal work-study

  • Federal student loans

  • State financial aid

  • Some institutional and other forms of financial assistance

And remember: FAFSA isn’t just about federal aid. States and colleges may also use FAFSA information when determining eligibility for their own financial aid programs.

💡 My advice as a high school counselor: DON’T WAIT.

Getting FAFSA completed early gives you more time to:

  • Correct mistakes or missing information ✅

  • Review your FAFSA Submission Summary ✅

  • Meet school and state priority deadlines ✅

  • Apply for scholarships ✅

  • Compare financial aid offers ✅

  • Plan for your actual college costs ✅

Students and families should also make sure they have their StudentAid.gov accounts set up. If parents need to contribute to the FAFSA, they will need their own StudentAid.gov account.

And please remember: FAFSA is FREE. You should never have to pay someone just to access the FAFSA application.
